In the 18th c. Joachim de la Grange, Comte de Taninges et de Flérier, built a vast château on the heights of Taninges.A century later, Laurent Marie Humbert, a Jacquemard who had left to make his fortune in Paris, returned to his origins and, in the image of his fortune and his dreams, built a building and its outbuildings on 1400 m2 of land. The house features all the comforts of the time. The "Clos du Chalet" was completed in 1857 and dominated the town of Taninges until 1995. All that remains of this former splendor are the memories.

The contemporary sculpture park Open to the public, the large park around the Chartreuse de Mélan is home to a dozen monumental works. Each artist has endeavored to bear witness to the strong and moving history of the site or its surroundings.
