In the countryside... The RAVeL we're following loses itself in the landscape and continues north. A line built in the 19th century to transport farmers from Flanders to the hellish coal mines of Charleroi and the Centre region. In the 1930s, more than 500 miners took the train daily! What a contrast to our time, when this route has become a beautiful green line, so pleasant to cycle through! The monotony of the fields we pass by is broken when we reach the beautiful villages of Corroy-le-Château, Bothey, Mazy, and Balâtre, bathed in their lush greenery. The road constantly winds, twists, and crosses the Orneau and La Ligne rivers: here, everything is curves and gentle slopes.
How far away is that image we have of soulless plains of fields!
