Bird observatory walking trail

Head towards the pier along the pavement. Turn right onto the path that runs along the edge of the lake, lined with willows, alders and poplars. This wide path bordering the confluence of the Tarn and Garonne rivers offers a panoramic view of 400 hectares of the confluence. After almost 2 km and 30 minutes, you will reach the bird observatory where, with binoculars, you can spot several islands around which there is a wide variety of migratory and sedentary birdlife.

Five minutes after this observatory, turn right onto the small bridge that crosses the drainage canal. 50 metres further on, after passing the remains of an old dredger, continue straight ahead under the trees onto a small road that crosses a cultivated area. After 1 kilometre (and 500 metres after a second bridge), turn left at the crossroads.

300 metres after Jointille (which, along with a few other farms, evokes the prosperous but bygone era of large-scale livestock farming), turn right towards the village at the crossroads. The castle towers and bell tower can be seen along the kilometre-long tarmac road that leads to the fortified town.

At the junction of the three roads, the route continues to the right. Continue straight ahead for about 1 km along this tarmac road. You will pass a beautiful private park, then 700 m further on, a large willow tree. 200 m before 'Le Platan’ farm, turn right onto a dirt track surrounded by poplar groves.

Turn left. At the end of this road, turn left to reach the edge of the drainage canal. This road will take you, via a place called Bernade, to the leisure centre on the campsite side, 1.5 km away.
