Hiking from Breil sur Roya in the Carleva valley
- Departure from the lower bridge, turn left of the hydroelectric dam
- Pass next to the wash house in Place Rousse and walk along the fortifications wall to the beacon 3
- Continue to the Saint Antoine Hermit chapel and pass under the Genoa gate to an oratory (tag 105)
- Take the winding path to the left which rises through narrow terraces of abandoned olive trees
- Arrival at the houses of Vesaire
- After the remains of the old quarry, we arrive at the heart of the upper basin of the Carléva (890 m)
- Arrive at tag 107, start the dive towards the Roya valley by a steep path then by the admirable paved path of Rougna (tag 104)
-We return to Breil-sur-Roya via the old bridge over the Carleva.
Accessible on foot, about 20 minutes' walk from the town hall.Follow the path to the chapel of St. Anthony the Hermit. Continue to the oratory, then follow the path straight ahead (don't head upwards, it's a 5-hour walk!). Cross the stone bridge and descend carefully to the waterhole. A 5.5 km-long, wild river with crystal-clear waters. A tributary of the Roya, this river is ideal for whitewater sports such as canyoning.
The construction of this dam changed the appearance of the town, creating a water body that supplies the Arbousset hydroelectric plant. Today, this body of water is also conducive to recreational activities such as fishing or kayaking.A new dam has been built to the latest seismic standards, which respects the environment, with better landscape integration, reduced noise pollution and special attention to biodiversity through the creation of a fish farm. The structure, visible from the lower deck, is not visited.
Chapel at the end of the village at the foot of olive groves. Opened occasionally during specific celebrations. Possibility to see it from the outside all year round.Covered with a lauze roof, this chapel is raised in the 17th century by the doctor Horace Cottalorda. In the centre of the altarpiece, a canvas depicting the Virgin and the Child between Saint Anthony and Saint Eloi rises above the altar. This chapel is the seat of the confraternity of Saint Anthony. La Soucétà Briiencà l'entretien and celebrates a Mass there every year. At the end of the service the participants gather around a meal shared with the Breilloises culinary specialties. Built a few meters from the Gate of Genoa, the chapel allowed travelers to make their devotions before crossing the ramparts.
Dating back to the Middle Ages, with the wall that led to it, it is the last vestige of the ramparts that encircled the ancient city and the three doors through which one entered it. Until 1814 it closed the way coming from Free the Genoese..
