Painting and nature in Haut-Beaujolais - Beaujolais - Saint-Jacques-des-Arrêts

Description

In Saint-Jacques-des-Arrêts, discover an unexpected collection by Jean Fusaro in the village church. Between a cultural interlude and the landscapes of the confidential Beaujolais, the panorama from the Col de la Sibérie opens onto the Alps and the Saône plain.

You'll love:
• Unexpected: the collection of 19 paintings by the painter Jean Fusaro exhibited in the church of Saint-Jaques-des-Arrêts.
• An unusual cultural getaway dedicated to lovers of painting and nature.
• A break in the heart of a more intimate Beaujolais region, a harmonious green setting highlighted by the bocage and valleys.
• Halfway there, the panoramic view from the Col de la Sibérie overlooking the Saône plain and the Alps.

You'll enjoy it better:
• By taking the audio-guided tour of Jean Fusaro's works presented in the church of Saint-Jacques-des-Arrêts.
• By immersing yourself in the spiritual atmosphere of the village, which is also a stopover along the Way of St. James.
• By picnicking peacefully in nature. • In summer, thanks to the cooler temperatures of the Haut-Beaujolais region.

A bit of culture:
Jean Fusaro
The church of Saint-Jacques-des-Arrêts is a cultural stop on the circuit of French churches housing works by internationally renowned contemporary artists. In the Rhône region, the Department wanted to promote art in the heart of the countryside. In 1999, it approached Jean Fusaro, who agreed to install four monumental murals in the building. Ten years later, the Department placed 15 other paintings by the painter there, all depicting the life of Jesus. Fusaro's work also addresses secular subjects: seascapes, scenes of urban life in the streets of Lyon, still lifes... His style is reminiscent of Raoul Dufy. The artist, born in Marseille in 1925, was one of the emblematic painters of the Lyon school, alongside André Cottavoz and Jean Couty. His paintings capture the eye with their fluid lines, their vivid and masterful colors, and a touch of naiveté. Movement seems to inhabit the canvas in the way Fusaro paints his figures, skies, and water.
