Between fragrant deciduous and coniferous forests, the Croix du Ban and La Luère passes, autumn chestnuts and wooded ridges classified as a Sensitive Natural Area, this route offers a breath of nature and serenity.
You'll love:
• A forest bath scented with the fragrance of deciduous and coniferous trees.
• A stimulating itinerary to get moving, relieve everyday stress, and reach the ridgeline to cross the Croix du Ban and La Luère passes.
• A touch of autumnal indulgence! A nourishing tree of the undergrowth, the chestnut tree sheds its fruit between September and November; it's time to bring back some chestnuts that have fallen along the paths*.
• The fragile beauty of the wooded crests of West Lyon, listed as a Sensitive Natural Area.
You'll enjoy it best:
• A hike to do during the week to enjoy the tranquility of the undergrowth; the trails are very popular with mountain bikers on weekends. • In summer, for the coolness and shade of the trees, three-quarters of the route is through the forest.
• Sharing the affectionate company of a pony or a donkey.
• For the athletic: combining climbing and brisk walking. One Sunday every two months, the Val Roc association organizes free climbing sessions at the Salle Lionel Daudet in Pollionnay.
* The trails cross private plots. Only collect chestnuts that have fallen on the path.
A bit of culture:
The wooded ridges of western Lyon
The Lyon metropolitan area is very close, yet the Monts du Lyonnais quickly mark the separation between city and countryside. The combination of altitude and small mountains acts as a natural barrier against urbanization. Leaving Pollionnay by the trails, the edge of the forest is quickly crossed. The plots crossed are mostly private and often used for firewood.
In the heights, the Croix du Ban and Luère passes follow one another. This aerial forest world, along with the meadows and moors, forms the beautiful landscape mosaic unified by the 4,289 hectares of the Sensitive Natural Area of the Wooded Ridges of West Lyon.
