A bit of history
Mont Saint-Rigaud, identity card
Date of birth > before the dinosaurs, 330 to 340 million years ago. Altitude > 1,009 meters. Special feature > Highest point in the Rhône. Distinctions > Geosite and natural area of ecological, faunal, and floral interest. Family > Mid-mountain relief.
A bit of history
The wild beasts of the mountain tread on the soil of the primary era. The history of the place begins 500,000 million years ago. The region was then maritime and volcanic. For millennia, the whims of nature transformed the landscapes until the rise of the Alps, which caused the Saint-Rigaud to gain altitude. Filled with water, it is the source of many rivers: Azergues, Ardières, etc.
A miraculous spring
The spring discharges an overflow of rainwater. Its clarity comes from the hardness of the schists, rocks it infiltrates and which do not produce mineral deposits. Since a monk was once buried there, it is said to have miraculous effects on female fertility, rheumatism, fever, and sore throats.
