Description

By following the signs, you will go through the history of this village which has kept its medieval aspect with its old market halls and its elegant wine growers' houses.

The history of Treffort is mentioned in the books as early as 974 (Trefortium) with the construction of the first "fortified house", but there is no doubt that this site was inhabited by man long
no doubt that this site was inhabited by man long before.
Clinging to the first ranges of the Jura, Treffort is a perched village that has kept its medieval plan. It was the lordship of the Counts of Burgundy, then of the Sires of Coligny, to whom we owe the construction of the castle topped by eight towers at the top of the village (partly disappeared). At the beginning of the Savoyard period (1289), Treffort was equipped with ramparts pierced by at least six doors and more than thirty towers, the remains of which can still be seen.
In 1601, Treffort became part of the French kingdom. The vine has also shaped this village for more than 1,000 years until the arrival of phylloxera and the First World War. Today the AOC Comté replaces the "p'tit vin des Cavets".
Treffort is also its church and its 14th century market hall, its fountains, the rue du fiscal, the Traboule and the rue Ferrachat with its beautiful facades.
