For the British Empire, Mons was "the first and the last”: the first and the last of the great battles of the First World war.
Bruce Harvey, a Canadian soldier, has taken part in the liberation of the city. The war is over. But he will have now have to find peace in his heart and somehow try to find a way for life to resume its normal course.
