A very easy green trail, ideal for getting the whole family to discover mountain biking while exploring the village surroundings and admiring part of the Esseillon Barrier Forts.
Start at Aussois or, more precisely, from Fort Marie-Christine which is easy to reach by bike from Aussois.
Fort Marie-Christine is one of the 5 forts that make up the Esseillon Barrier.
Built in the 19th century on a rocky sill that closes off the upper Arc Valley (Maurienne Valley) upstream from Modane, the purpose of these fortifications was to protect the Cisalpine part of the kingdom of Sardinia from the threat of French invasion. The Barrier comprises four forts and a redoubt which bear the names of contemporaneous members of the House of Savoy.
This easy trail offers beautiful views over the valley and the nearby forts.
Definitely worth doing!
From 01/05 to 01/11.
