Hidden heritage trail through the village of Saint-Bon.
The following trail is downhill but you can do it both ways.
Saint-Bon and Le Praz were the two biggest villages before the Courchevel resort was founded in 1946. Most of the local population still lives here to this day. Saint-Bon, at an altitude of 1100m, is the capital of the area where you’ll find a town hall and parish church. The first hotel, Le Lac Bleu, opened here in 1908. Le Praz, at an altitude of 1300m, was the highest constantly inhabited village until Courchevel’s foundation with which it is linked by ski lifts and pistes. Both villages still have the traditional charm of the mountain setting.
A main road divides Saint-Bon into two separate areas: Saint-Bon-Le-Haut and Saint-Bon-Le-Bas.
Visit the Baroque Saint-Bon Church. Wander through the streets in search of Place du Mollard and its endless views of the valley, the old communal oven in the village which now houses the still, the old mill and even the 19th century holiday homes. Keep your eyes peeled and observe the architectural simplicity of the houses and barns built by Saint-Bon families who managed to adapt their infrastructure to the harsh terrain to live almost solely on agro-pastoralism until the mid-20th century.

BREAD OVEN AND STILL (Saint-Bon-Le-Haut)
This former bread oven has retained its wall and quarter-sphere vault. It now houses the communal still managed by the L’Alambic Saint-Bonnais Association which, every autumn, keeps the still tradition alive.
Continue walking up to the village then turn right onto Rue du Coin to reach Place du Mollard.
Retrace your steps until the small square where you can see the Saint-Bon oratory. After that, turn left down Rue de Nice to the church forecourt.
The village’s old mill
Walk along Rue de l'Ancien Four on your right to the village mill.
Cross the road to explore Saint-Bon-le-Bas.
Walk along the main road, Rue des Moulins.
Keep walking to the bottom of the village where you’ll find one of Saint-Bon’s holiday homes.
