Take a shuttle bus to La Rosière car park and head for the lakeside Chalet Buvette where this hike starts.
Make the most of this time to get some information.
From Chalet Buvette de la Rosière, cross the stream then turn right onto the forest path which goes up along La Rosière stream. Turn left onto the uphill path at the first crossroads: you are now on the botanical trail.
It crosses the Col de la Chal path at the top. Go back down to the Cascade des Poux path along the stream.
Go up the valley and cross the little Creux de l’âne stream.
You come out onto the Mare aux Tritons Alpestres a little after the water fountain.
A little higher, leave the Col de la Dent path on your left then continue a few hundred metres to the Cascade des Poux.
Go back the same way along the stream until you reach the Chalet Buvette.
Alternative way back (75 minutes)
After the waterfalls, the path crosses a ford whose water is flavoured by the gypsum. After a few uphill bends, you come out into Avals Valley near the Plan de la Porte (20 minutes).
Take the wide mountain pasture path on the right which takes you along the edge over the waterfalls; the balustrade has views over the Cascades des Poux.
Take the first right-hand forest path downhill then, 700m after the hairpin turn, turn right onto a small downhill path back to the La Rosière Lake car park.
