Prévourey Cirque - Family Walk

Description

From viewpoint to viewpoint, reach the amazing place of Louvet Cirque.
This place is near from Alpe du Grand Serre but you feel like if you will be alone, lost in the mountains.

Enjoy this magical place where you can see marmots, foxes, eagles and chamois.

Marmots can be seen from the sunny days of spring, from thaw to late September. Be silent for a chance to see them play, nap on a sunny roc or whistle. Louvet Cirque is a great place for a picnic and contemplation.

From the tourist office of Alpe du Grand-Serre, take the Waterfall direction. At the waterfall, take a small path on the left of the sawmill and keep on the way to Prévourey hut. Then continue on a flat path that leads you step by step in the Louvet Cirque. At the Cirque entrance, walk up left side to the Prévourey hut. It is a shepherd hut with a continuous flow water basin.

Keep above the hut and turn right on a trail. 100m further, you will discover the Prevourey small lake with the surrounded mountains reflections on the surface. Keeping on to the end of Cirque, you will discover the waterfall that flows from the Brouffier lake.

Keep your dog on a leash.

Louvet´s hut

Very well located hut, with beautiful scenery. Local pastoralism remains .The Louvet's hut is very basic and offers the same comfort as usual in mountain huts, it is a clean and safe place. On the ground floor there is a wood stove and a table with 2 benches. On the first floor there is a sleeping place for a small group. You will find water on a basin near the hut. We recommend up to bring matches and small candles to light your evening. Be sure to take back all your trash with you, there is no toilets and you are in a protected natural area, please keep this in mind.

The hydraulic sawmill

This old hydraulic saw was working with "houille blanche" (white carbon) as we say in the region of Isère. Outside, some elements which allowed work are still visible, like dam and penstock...This sawmill has been there for a long time as texts from the year 1725 mention its activity. It has worked regularly until 1932. Its owner has left so the place has quickly declined. An unfortunate restoration has transformed and partly erased the initial allocation of the building. However, you can still see the penstock which produced the driving force. A small dam located at the torrent gorge's end made the water flow stronger and regular. This penstock arrives on the right side of the building (the side of the stream), you can still see the "Pelton" type wheel, driven by the water strength. This wheel used to pull on an axle on which the band saw was connected. This saw used to have a straight blade with alternating movement. (But this kind of saw needed a big wooden wheel with paddles or buckets to get sufficient strength. These wheels were much bigger : 2 meters diameter). This saw were not working throughout the year as the torrent flow was often not enough.
