The cycle ride starts at Val-Dieu Abbey, a monastery of Cistercian monks located in Aubel in Pays de Herve, which was founded around 1215. After a first section full of greenery, you will head towards Battice and its fort, which were built between 1934 and 1937 and are also open to visitors. You will then arrive in the village of Thimister, where the first Belgian soldier died during World War I: Antoine Fonck. Finally, you will head towards the abbey, where you can recharge; after all, it is home to… a brewery.
