Culture and Nature along the Banks of the Blies
Begin your hike on the French side, from the car park of the Sarreguemines water sports centre, just a stone’s throw from the entrance to the Moulin de la Blies. This unique site brings together two heritage treasures: the Jardin des Faïenciers, a true green haven created on former industrial land, and the Museum of Faience Techniques, a living testimony to the craftsmanship that made Sarreguemines famous.
Cross the pedestrian bridge that leads you into the Sitterswald forest, running along the French-German border, at the heart of the remarkable landscapes of the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve in Germany.
Follow the river to Blies-Guersviller (French side), where you can discover its arboretum, laid out on the banks of the Blies. This educational trail, dotted with themed panels, reveals the richness of local flora and fauna. It’s also the perfect place to stop for a picnic.
The route then leaves the lush alluvial plain to reach the mill of Bliesgersweiler. A little further on, walk through the village of Kleinblittersdorf. Leave its peaceful little streets behind and continue along the path between forest edges and flower-filled meadows. Higher sections of the trail reward you with fantastic panoramic views stretching as far as the Vosges Mountains.
Finally, return along the Blies to your starting point at the Sarreguemines water sports centre. Treat yourself to a gourmet break at its restaurant – the perfect way to round off this delightful journey between culture and nature.
Allow a full day to make the most of this trail.
