In winter, the Col de l'Izoard road is transformed into a groomed trail for cross-country skiers and walkers. Take the opportunity to discover this mythical pass on this easy snowshoe hike.
The Col de l'Izoard is one of the must-do snowshoe hikes in the Briançonnais. With family or friends, it's an easy hike that leads to one of the most beautiful panoramic views of the Queyras. Ideal on full-moon evenings, to enjoy the nocturnal ambience of snow-covered forests, it's also an opportunity to discover the unmissable Refuge Napoléon, built in 1858.
From the parking lot, head up towards and through the hamlet of Le Laus.
Pass the Auberge de l'Arpelin. Then, as you leave the hamlet, put on your snowshoes and begin the ascent of the pass on the 8-kilometer groomed trail, staying on the right-hand side going up and the left-hand side going down on the multi-activity trail".
As you ascend, take in the view of the Pic du Grand Rochebrune, the summit of Arpelin and the Grand Peygu.
When you reach the Refuge Napoléon, continue for another 1 km to reach the pass.
Return by the same route.

From Briançon, take the D902 towards the Col de l'Izoard to reach the village of Cervières. Continue towards the Col de l'Izoard, then park in the large parking lot a hundred metres before Le Laus on the right.
Please note that during the February vacations, the road between Cervières and Le Laus is closed during the day (except for those entitled to use it): a free shuttle bus will take you to the hamlet.
Groomed trail
There is a cross-country ski center in the village of Cervières, where you can rent cross-country skiing equipment (alternating and skating), snowshoes, sealskins for cross-country skiing and sledges.
Due to the risk of avalanches, wearing complete safety equipment (avalanche transceiver, probe, and shovel) is strongly recommended.
