The Beaujolais Vert is a perfect area for regular cycle hikers looking for a difference in altitude. Among the 6 loops, 3 are rated “difficult” and 3 “very difficult”!
Sporty side
A superb course.
This 68 km circuit, 6 passes to climb with a drop of 1,200 m, is very difficult. The description of the circuit is quite simple:
for 10 km, warming up on a slightly bumpy course. The next 60 km goes up or down. No dish! Six percent over 6 km from the Col de Favardy, 6% over 2 km from the Col des Escorbans, 5% over 4 km from the Col de la Cambuse… The descent of the latter is superb and brings us to the end of the circuit. This course is for experienced cyclists.
Tourism side
On its western side, northern Beaujolais is a forestry region that generates dynamic agricultural activity: plantations of Douglas fir, sawmills, construction, firewood, etc. Rows of ever-present conifers punctuate the hilly terrain. At the bend in the hills, they reveal the bell towers of the villages that overlook two valleys of the route. To the west, that of the Reins which flows towards the Loire, then the Azergues, its eastern neighbour who joins the Saône and which is also the steepest in the massif.
