The hiking trail of La Valette starts in the center of Abreschviller. It leads the walker to the grave of soldier Petermann.
In 1914, Second Lieutenant Robert Petermann was 21 years old and had just graduated from Saint-Cyr (a prestigious French military school). He belonged to the 5th company of the 149th Infantry Regiment. He left a diary in which he reported some of the actions around Abreschviller, until his death in combat on August 21, 1914.
The trail crosses the Voyer forest before arriving at La Valette. Its name comes from Latin and means "little valley".
The national necropolis of the 1st World War of La Valette gathers the soldiers killed following the battle of Abreschviller, on August 21, 1914. French and German soldiers are buried there.
The circular path is 9.4 km long and takes about 3 hours to complete. It is an easy hike.
