HIKING TRAIL : LE GROS CHÊNE IN FÉNÉTRANGE

La Licorne bleue welcomes you in Fénétrange ! We defend a family cooking, tasty and of quality and give it back all its place in the culinary landscape... A know-how in the best gourmet tradition, generous dishes, seasonal, home-made (including our delicious desserts), a very fine selection of wines to enhance your plate! Our dishes are homemade, cooked on the spot with quality ingredients, seasonal and fresh as much as possible... Our passion is the real cooking, and not the assembly and the reheating of ready-to-use products. Our menu is renewed every quarter according to the seasons and we elaborate a new daily menu. Our pizza doughs are homemade and our flamm's doughs are homemade! We favour local products, short circuits and regional suppliers.

Built in 1444, the collegiate church of Saint Remy was classified as a historical monument in 1930. Above the door, the inscription: "Verbum Domini Manet In Aeternum" or "the word of God is eternal", is the motto of the Protestants. Gravestone of Henry the Elder, 16th century stained glass windows, organ bought from the Benedictine abbey of Vergaville in 1792 and remarkable tombstones. The Paschal lamb and the monstrance appearing on the tombs are the distinctive sign of membership in the brotherhood of the Blessed Sacrament (merchants, clerks, judges and officers). Guided tours available.

On entering the courtyard of the castle, one discovers this imposing architectural ensemble from the 16th-18th centuries that is still inhabited. The castle houses a Gothic chapel, built in 1584 to accommodate Catholic worship after the triumph of the Reformation. It has a seigneurial kitchen and a magnificent spiral staircase with snail shell volutes. It is classified as a "Historic Monument". The castle is partially open to visitors (guided tours only). Free access to the exterior. Guided tours for groups by appointment.

The Chapel is currently located next to the town hall and surrounded by green settings where a graveyard used to be. There is no official date for the building of the Chapel even though historians think it was built during the 18th Century. At first, this building was dedicated to "Notre Dame des Trépassés" (Lady of the Ones deceased) and later on to "Notre Dame de la Pitié" (Lady of Pity).

Fénétrange has a beautiful historic centre. Reputed to be an impregnable city in the Middle Ages, it has had a glorious past. Its historic centre and its surroundings offer many elements that can escape our attention: emblems, stonecutters' marks, small alleys, sculpted decorations, half-timbering... As for the people who lived here, or still live here, from the most humble to the most famous, they deserve to be known! Possibility of a guided tour of the whole in 1 h 30 to 2 h.
