HIKING TRAIL : LA SALIÈRE

To reach Chalice Roc, you may walk on Chalice hiking trail. The name comes from its shape.

Be amazed by this impressive rock with a sculpture of the Devil made out of sandstone. Legend has it that there used to be a convent that was destroyed during the Thirty Years War. However, the sisters had time to hide the treasures of the convent in one of the holes of Devil's Rock.

Welcome to Grand Soldat hamlet, near Abreschviller. At first, it was called "Soldatenthal", meaning "Soldier Valley" thanks to a Mercury or Mars statue found there. There used to be a forest railway in Grand Soldat which became a tourist railway later on. Midway, you may visit a former sawmill. Local celebrities were born in this hamlet such as Alexandre Chatrian (writer, philosopher 1826 - 1890). You may stop by his house and read further information about his life. He his known as "Erckmann-Chatrian", a surname he shared with his friend Emile Erckmann.

Seven sanctuaries called the « Seven Roses » are to be discovered in Saint-Quirin and in the dependent communes of the Priory. The Verriers Church is located in Lettenbach which is a small hamlet situated between Saint-Quirin and Abreschviller. Currently the ancient glass factory’s chapel is owned by the Congregation of the Sisters of the Charity.

Since 1905, in the Abreschviller valley, at the foot of the Donon massif, three generations of passionate breeders have succeeded one another at the Messang salmon farm to offer you quality trout. Fed by the Red Saar, the fish farm offers you rainbow, fario and gold trout for retail, wholesale or half wholesale.

A shaded 35 ares pond bordered by two streams is at your disposal. You will find: a bait sales area, a picnic area with tables and benches, a giant barbecue, a shelter, a playground, toilets accessible to people with reduced mobility, a shady car park, a gutting place with sink. The site is accessible to people with reduced mobility.
