Hiking in the Chaos de la Balme
Description
Time: 2 hours - Distance: 6,9 km
Unusual shaped rocks and typical architecture built of local granite will be on show in the Durencuse Valley.
Departure at the Place du monument aux morts (War memorial square), next to the town hall.
This hike will enable you to go across this sculpted and mysterious landscape so typical of the Sidobre, among beautiful beech groves, chestnut groves and coniferous forests.
You will discover the traditional granite habitat from the start of this walk as well as by crossing the hamlet of Taillades where stones were driven directly into the ground to stand vertically, before going down along the small river of the Durencuse.
Finally, you will go up back to the village of St Salvy passing by some famous Sidobre rocks such as the Grotte du loup or the Chaos de la Balme.
A chaos in the Sidobre, is a river of granite balls formed by erosion, which tumbled down the slope and got stuck in the bed of the stream.

Descendre vers la rue Albanie Moulis puis prendre à droite par la rue de la Foun. Continuer à gauche sur le chemin goudronné, puis longer la haie de houx sur la droite qui descend légèrement.
Étape 2
Prendre à gauche direction "Chaos de la balme" Au hameau des tailhades prendre le petit chemin à droite puis le chemin goudronné qui descend à droite.

Emprunter le chemin de terre sur la droite vers la rivière puis suivre la rivière

Prendre à droite le chemin qui monte pour s'éloigner de la rivière

Hameau de Garrigue: empruntez le chemin goudronné sur votre droite. A la fin du sentier de terre, prendre la piste qui monte
Étape 6
Prendre à droite en dessous du chaos puis le chemin à gauche pour retourner au village. Variante de 30 mn environ en remontant à gauche le sentier le long du Chaos de la balme puis à l'intersection du chemin en prenant à gauche en redescendant vers le Rocher du Hamburger et le Chapeau de Napoléon puis en bas en prenant à gauche pour revenir au point de départ ( environ 600 m) .

Maison du Sidobre Tourist Information Office
The Maison du Sidobre is one of the Sidobre Tourist Information Offices, a museum and one of the starting points for exploring the rocks of the Sidobre massif. There is also an interpretation trail.Group visits are available all year round, and in summer individuals can also visit the processing workshops and the largest granite quarry in Europe (booking essential). There's also a "Granite and Men" museum on the evolution of granite working, as well as an interpretation trail to help you understand where these large rocks come from.
chaos at la Balme
A gigantic river of rock on the trail of legends below the village of Saint-Salvy-de-la-Balme.Alongside it you'll find "Le chapeau de Napoléon", "la grotte du Loup" and a host of other unusual rocks. There are several possible variants of this trail, one lasting 40 minutes and another lasting 1 hour 30 minutes (from the village centre).

Point de vue de Veyrières
Quelques minutes de marche vous attendent entre le parking et le magnifique point de vue, qui surplombe la Montagne Noire et la plaine Castraise. Un site idéal pour l'observation des oiseaux.
