A walk that takes you on a journey to discover the remains of the old stonemasons’ workshops.
You can also enjoy a magnificent view of the Montagne Noire and a spot that’s ideal for birdwatching.

This round-trip walk will take you in the footsteps of the old peiraires (stonemasons) through the typical woodland of the Sidobre.
After passing the large granite cross, you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Montagne Noire.
It is also an ideal spot for birdwatching, with species such as the kestrel and the goldfinch.
To make the most of this prime vantage point for birdwatching without disturbing the birds, it is advisable to bring a pair of binoculars. The morning and late afternoon are the best times for birdwatching.

Remember to turn back after reaching the viewpoint, as this walk follows part of the Ronda del Peiraire trail.

Maison du Sidobre Tourist Information Office

The Maison du Sidobre is one of the Sidobre Tourist Information Offices, a museum and one of the starting points for exploring the rocks of the Sidobre massif. There is also an interpretation trail.Group visits are available all year round, and in summer individuals can also visit the processing workshops and the largest granite quarry in Europe (booking essential). There's also a "Granite and Men" museum on the evolution of granite working, as well as an interpretation trail to help you understand where these large rocks come from.

chaos at la Balme

A gigantic river of rock on the trail of legends below the village of Saint-Salvy-de-la-Balme.Alongside it you'll find "Le chapeau de Napoléon", "la grotte du Loup" and a host of other unusual rocks. There are several possible variants of this trail, one lasting 40 minutes and another lasting 1 hour 30 minutes (from the village centre).

It’s just a few minutes’ walk from the car park to the magnificent viewpoint, which overlooks the Montagne Noire and the Castraise plain. An ideal spot for birdwatching.
