Rémelfing hiking trail

By way of Lorraine... oh oh!

The departure is made in front of the castle of Edouard Jaunez, former mayor of Sarreguemines and member of the Geiger family. Dating from 1891, Kaiser Wilhelm II would have made a stop there in May 1905, the building is now occupied by the current town hall. Take the towpath along the Canal de la Sarre in the direction of Zetting. Then turn right to cross the D33 to reach the rue de la Paix on the other side of the railroad. Follow this road until you reach the marked path which leads you into the forest of the Remsbachwald and the Honigwald. After the first three kilometers, you will reach a beautiful viewpoint at the level of two milestones dating from the 18th century and which marked the limit of the duchy of Lorraine with the territory of the count of Nassau-Sarrebruck.

Continue along the edge of the Grossbannwald. Take the direction of the center of the village by the rue de la Tuilerie then the rue du 8eme Zouaves. Continue to follow the markings on your right which lead you through fields at the edge of the wood. Pass through the village again to reach the Petit Freiwald, which you cross by the rue des Chênes. At the crossroads, turn left into rue des Hêtres, then right into rue des Ormes. Finally, cross the rue de Siltzheim to reach the Grand Freiwald.

Follow the markings on the edge of the Grand Freiwald. By following this path you will arrive on the cycle track, which you must follow. You will then pass by the first remarkable tree: the Alisier Torminal. Just before the exit of the wood in direction of the village, a few meters on your right, a second remarkable tree : the Cormier. Then go to the town hall of Rémelfing, passing in front of the train station. In the center of the village, you will find cafés and other restaurants for a well-deserved break. A picnic area is also at your disposal on the banks of the Saar.
