The Euro Vélo 5 route is a cycle path that is part of the European cycle route development programme.
The starting point is in London, then the EV5 goes to Rome and ends in Brindisi.
The route covers more than 3,900 kilometres. It crosses Europe through Great Britain, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Germany, Switzerland and finally Italy.
In north-eastern France, the EV5 follows the Saar Canal from Saarbrücken to Gondrexange. It crosses the municipalities of Grosbliederstroff, Sarreguemines, Sarreinsming, Zetting and Wittring in the Sarreguemines Confluences urban community. On this section of the route, you will ride through varied landscapes along the beautifully restored towpath. Take a break in Sarreguemines, a 4-flower nominated town that received the Golden Flower award in 2012, or in the surrounding villages. You can relax, eat in a restaurant, stay overnight and discover many local cultural and natural treasures.
Continue on to Alsace. The EV5 follows the towpaths of the Saar Canal and the Rhine-Marne Canal. From Sarreguemines, the faience capital, the canal travels through the beautiful Saar Valley, then crosses the winding Alsace and Lorraine Regional Nature Park. A wonderful adventure for cycling enthusiasts!
