Around the Lakes
Description
During this walk, you will discover some of the many man-made lakes in the commune of Flayat.Take the Etang de l'Ecluse causeway and continue to the road.Once on the road, turn left for a few metres and then go down the path on the right which goes into the woods.At the road, turn right and go through the small village of Gandouly then continue along the road to the D 29.At the crossroads, go to the right and go through Noudière.As you leave the hamlet, go to the left, past the last houses, then take the first path on the right.Continue up the path which rises to the lake, Etang Neuf.Cross the river by the small wooden bridge and continue straight on until you reach the D 29. Turn right to get back to the starting point.

Etang de la Brivonne
Parmi la faune remarquable, le busard des roseaux, la loutre, le crapaud calamite ; des espèces rares d’invertébrés (libellule notamment) sont également présentes. Les étangs de Flayat abritent aussi une flore typique des landes tourbeuses.
Muret de Noudière
Jusqu’à l’aube du XXe siècle, l’équilibre de la paysannerie repose sur l’élevage extensif du mouton (utilisation pastorale des landes communales) et sur l’émigration saisonnière. Puis se met en place l’élevage intensif du veau de lait, les pâturages s’améliorent et les landes les plus médiocres sont plantées de résineux : c’est le système du pré-bois.
Zone humide
Les étangs de la région de Flayat sont classés en ZNIEFF. En périphérie de ces étangs, se trouvent de nombreuses prairies pâturées ; certaines sont très nettement tourbeuses au regard de la flore qui s'y développe.
