Description

This magnificent lake, dominated by the Pic de Rochebrune, is one of the jewels of the Briançonnais region. On the edge of the Cerveyrette valley, this hike passes through forests, wetlands and alpine meadows in the heart of the Natura 2000 site. You're sure to fall in love!

From the Hameau des Chalps, park at the Bourgea parking lot, then take the dirt track down towards the Cerveyrette torrent to reach the footbridge.

After crossing the footbridge, the trail begins with a steep climb through the forest, forming several hairpin bends.
After the main climb, the path flattens out in a clearing, then quickly leads to a cabled passage in a rock face.

After this technical passage, the path crosses the last larch trees in the forest, before becoming flatter and leading to a magnificent wetland.

Cross the wetland and the wide Vallon Gras opens up before you. Up ahead, the lock marks the spillway behind which you can imagine the lake.

The path then begins a gradual ascent through the cirque on the right bank of the torrent.

A final, steeper climb under the rocks leads to the lock. The spillway and Lac des Cordes open up before you, with Turge de la Suffie and Escalinade overhanging.

The wide banks of the lake at the far end offer an unforgettable night's bivouac.
