Description

A long and pretty walk down through the forest on a snowclad road, well away from the slopes ; the walks allows to discover a large pine forest, with its clearing and hamlets, known as "Les Montagnettes"

From Montchavin, take the Coches gondola, then the Lac Noir gondola to the Plan Bois plateau.

When you exit the gondola, cross the Mont Blanc piste to find yourself in the Petits Loups beginners' area, which you'll ski down to the left, then across to the bottom to the Squirrel ski lift. Follow a wide groomer track towards the Chez Laurette restaurant. Continue on this forest road (watch out for skiers behind you), you'll come to a hairpin bend where you'll have to turn left (signposted "hors domaine skiable"), the forest road continues downhill. You'll come to a junction with a road sign indicating 30km, leave this sign on your right (if you take the road, it will take you to the Montchavin chairlift with Piste crossings - Les Coches and Mont Blanc) and continue down the forest road to the Hameau de Praz Salvard (without ever leaving it).
At Praz Salvard, leave the narrow road and turn right towards Les Coches (signposted), following the route back to the Orgère parking lot, then in 10 minutes to the center of Les Coches.

Caution: don't forget to turn off at Praz Salvard to reach Les Coches.

From Les Coches:
You can take the télébufette and then the Lac Noir gondola or You can do the circuit from Les Coches. Take the path (stairs) in front of the Intersport store La Randonnée aux Coches to reach the Orgère parking lot.
From here, turn right towards Crévaillet and then Praz Salvard (signposted).
In Praz Salvard, turn left and follow the forest road, with or without snow, to the Plan Bois - Chez Laurette plateau (from the parking lot to Plan Bois, it takes 2.5 hours return).

Chalet du Plan Bois "Chez Laurette

The Chalet du Plan Bois is an intimate, high-altitude terroir restaurant. It's located in the Plan Bois mountain range, a place of nature and tranquillity, the backdrop to a rare experience.A native of the region and owner of the family chalet, Isabelle welcomes you to a more intimate, traditional dining experience, with the option of a private dining room. You'll be able to enjoy a limited-edition lunch where quality comes first, with a personalized welcome "just like home", in the "little chalet" or "by the fireplace", which can accommodate 4 to 8 guests in a private area. Once you've swapped your ski boots for slippers made in a French factory, you're ready to settle in to the chalet's stylishly decorated dining rooms (cloth tablecloths and napkins, china cabinet, armchairs, crockery and plaids), or onto the adjoining terrace. One table at a time, authentic cuisine based on local produce is served in the finest style. Isabelle is determined to create a "real" and rare address, where she takes great care of her guests. Unique daily menu in the private dining rooms and a la carte menu in the other areas of the chalet. Reservations essential via the website for the private dining rooms, and by telephone on 06 09 34 37 88 for the other areas of the chalet. What's more, Isabelle and her team are committed to a responsible approach to restaurant management, with waste reduction and sorting systems, short circuits and local, seasonal produce. The restaurant is a member of the Mountain Riders Association. High-altitude restaurant located around 500m from the finish of the Lac Noir gondola lift, 100m from the start of the beginners' ski lift. Access for skiers, pedestrians and cross-country skiers. Pedestrian walks to La Plagne. In summer, Isabelle awaits you in this authentic and charming place. Located at the start of several hiking trails to La Plagne, Mont Saint Jacques ... In summer only, you can "Déjeuner sur l'herbe"! A gourmet picnic presented in a pretty wicker basket for a country-style lunch in the wooded surroundings of the Plan Bois plateau. Baskets for 2 to 4 people are to be ordered the day before, before 4pm from the restaurant. Each basket includes : - a salad (different each day) - choice of: quiche / charcuterie platter / cold roast - a dessert in a "Le Parfait" jar (e.g. tiramisu, vanilla cream, etc.) Possibility of ordering a bottle of wine in addition (corkscrew supplied). Basket to be collected by 12 noon on day of picnic; basket returned the same day. Picnic basket : 15€/pers.

The trail starts from a place called l'Orgère above Les Coches.
There is a parking lot where you can park according to availability, and then take the Crévaillet road to reach the trailhead if you are coming directly by car.

From Montchavin, take the Coches gondola lift and then the Telebufette down to the center of Les Coches and then, in the direction of the ESF, pass the Origan restaurant and take the path through the chalets to L'Orgère.

From Les Coches, take the Place des commerces, then head for the Origan restaurant and take the stairs opposite to take the path through the chalets to L'Orgère.

Reception complements

Depending on snow conditions, you'll need the right equipment, such as snowshoes with poles or good hiking boots/crampons with poles, for greater stability and safety.
