La Piscine, musée d'Art et d'Industrie André Diligent

A la Piscine, certes on plonge dans l’art, mais aussi dans l’histoire de la ville ! Car en 1932, lors de son inauguration, cette piscine est le manifeste politique et social du maire Jean Lebas – ministre du travail sous le front populaire. C’est un temple de l’hygiène avec bassin de natation, salons de coiffure, sauna et salles de bains individuelles, alors que beaucoup d’habitations ouvrières ne disposent pas de salle d’eau. Ce bâtiment art déco est aussi considéré à l’époque comme « la plus belle piscine de France ». En raison de la fragilité de sa voûte, elle ferme ses portes en 1985, au grand regret des Roubaisiens, très attachés à ce lieu. Mais à Roubaix, on se réinvente, on métamorphose, on recycle ! Et en 2001, cette piscine se transforme en Musée d’Art et d’Industrie, réhabilité par l’architecte Jean-Paul Philippon (artisan du musée d’Orsay). Le succès public est aussi inattendu qu’important, avec plus de 200 000 visiteurs par an, conduisant à un agrandissement des lieux : en octobre 2018, le musée rouvre avec 2 300m3 supplémentaires incluant une galerie-panorama de la sculpture moderne, une salle consacrée à l’histoire de la ville, ainsi qu’une aile dédiée aux artistes du Groupe de Roubaix. Ce sont désormais plus de 300 000 visiteurs annuels qui plébiscitent l’un des musées français les plus attachants, par son cadre unique comme ses collections… Horaires : du mardi au jeudi, 11h à 18h – vendredi 11h à 20h – samedi et dimanche 13h à 18h – Restaurant Meert du mardi au dimanche de 12h à 17h30 . www.roubaix-lapiscine.com/
