Le Nid d'Aigle from Bionnassay

Situated close to the arrival of the Mont Blanc Tramway, the Nid d'Aigle refuge, built in a circular arc, is particularly well integrated into the landscape. Please note that reception conditions will change this summer 2025 due to the TMB works.SUMMER 2025 Due to ongoing work on the Mont Blanc tramway, access to the Nid d'Aigle will be modified this summer. There are two ways to get to the refuge: - On foot, via the Plat de l'Are path, with a 985 m difference in altitude and a cabled passage ("échelles"). This hike is rated as "difficult" and requires you to be well equipped. At the start of the season, check that the path is cleared of snow if you are not a mountaineer. - By train, subject to conditions: > The tramway is reserved for mountaineers with a confirmed reservation in a hut on the normal route (Nid d'Aigle, Tête Rousse or Goûter) > Tickets must be booked in advance, > And be sure to check the "mountaineer" timetable, as not all trains run to the Nid d'Aigle during the construction work. Facing the Pointe Percée, the highest point in the Aravis massif, and dominated by the Aiguilles du Goûter (3,863m) and Bionnassay (4,052m), our terrace is an ideal place for contemplation. The impressive Bionnassay glacier is just a stone's throw away: early risers are likely to come across an ibex on its moraine. Climbers returning late from the roof of Europe are always welcome: they can even reward themselves with a fondue! The dormitories are equipped with duvets and pillows, so all you need is a personal sheet. Sanitary facilities are available outside the refuge. There are no showers. For those who wish to cook for themselves, we can provide a non-sack room: remember to bring your own cooking equipment. Our cook can also prepare pasta, omelettes and cold meats for you throughout the day.

A ride on the Mont-Blanc Tramway is a pretext for adventure... Discover a variety of alpines landscapes along the journey and some of the most views from the top. More than a simple excursion, a true discovery !In winter, it takes pedestrians and skiers to the Plateau de Bellevue (1800 m) and the ski area of Les Houches for the pleasure of a most picturesque walk and the grandeur of an exceptional panorama. In summer, it takes you as far as the Nid d'Aigle. Please note: following renovation work this summer (2025), the train will only run up to Mont Lachat. Take the cogwheel train for an effortless assault on the summits. Jeanne, Marie or Anne will take you to the gates of the high mountains, to the delight of your eyes... and your legs! Access to the Nid d'Aigle is reserved for mountaineers with a refuge reservation. Trains specially dedicated to mountaineers planning to climb Mont Blanc via the normal Goûter route will be offered at the following times: 7am, 12pm and last train from Le Fayet - Descent at 8.10am 1.10pm and last train back minus 10 minutes.

The glacier of Bionnassay (430 hectares) is the smallest of the great glaciers of the French side of the Mont Blanc. This glacier has a length of almost 5 km, AND ends between two mighty lateral moraines.The hameau du Bionnassay located 1320m above sea level at the foot of the glacier is a privileged site. On the way GR5, the Royal Route to the Mont Blanc, but also from the neck or to the top of Bellevue, this site offers an exceptional panorama, for walkers and visitors.
