Galibot circuit

An essential energy source for our country for more than thirty years, from the 50s to the 80s, coal was mined in many of our region's mines. Mining towns were built to accompany the development of the activity and to house the miners, notably in Behren-les-Forbach, Cocheren, Forbach, Petite-Rosselle, Schœneck and Stiring-Wendel. This structuring of the neighborhoods in our communities is characteristic of mining architecture and bears witness to the glorious years, just like the headframes in the mine shafts...

Built in 1908, the building was originally a dormitory. It later became the employees' club, then the Maison des Jeunes.

In a modern and attractive setting covering 1800 m2, more than 160 objects and models, 25 audio-visual presentations and innumerable photos and documents will immerse you in the history of coal in Lorraine, the daily life of the miner and his family, and the social policies of the mining companies, while shining a spotlight on a few specific professions. Thanks to authentic testimonies playing through audio terminals, visitors can hear about the miners’ daily routine in the pithead entrance hall, the drying-room, the bath-house, and so on. Outdoor information boards enable visitors to understand the history, uses and functions of the pithead buildings.
