Description

On site, you will find the trail under the following name: LA BLIES PARTAGÉE

This 11.8 km trail provides an enjoyable walk along both banks of the Blies, a scenic river that forms the boundary between France and Germany, stretching from Sarreguemines to Bliesbruck.

Do not miss a visit to the Musée des Techniques Faïencières (Museum of Faience Techniques), located on the site of the Moulin de la Blies in Sarreguemines. The museum houses a vast collection of machine tools used in the production of ceramics, and its Faïenciers garden is also worth a visit.

Your journey will lead you to the villages of Blies-Guersviller, a typical Lorraine village, Graefinthal, and then to the heart of the Sitterswald forest in Germany, on the border with Sarreguemines. The forest is located within the Bliesgau Biosphere Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

In the heart of nature, you will be surrounded by an unspoilt natural environment, with a wide variety of other trees such as maple, hazel, black alder, hawthorn, larch, sessile oak, wild cherry, black ash, spruce, Vancouver fir, walnut, as well as other plants (cattail, ivy with its creepers and fruit, hedge clematis, anemones, coltsfoot, lesser celandine and sweet violets, orchids, etc..).

- Variant: the circuit can be extended by the "Landscapes of the Blies" circuit (Paysages de la Blies) - 6.9 km.

- Connections: at Graefinthal, towards the airfield, you have a connection to the “Following the Path of the Counts" (Sur les Pas des Comtes) circuit - 5 km.

- Trail-Marking: blue ring

- Geographical area: The Blies Valley, confluences of water and history

- Starting points: Sarreguemines > 117 avenue de la Blies - Car park 200 m from the Blies Mill / Sarreguemines > 200m after rue de Graefinthal

Moulin de la Blies - Musée des Techniques Faïencières

Earthenware is an art! Voted 9th favourite monument of the French in 2015, the Moulin de la Blies brings together two exceptional places on a single site. An industrial wasteland? A garden? A work of art? It is all of these things at the same time in the Jardin des Faïenciers! A place to walk and escape thanks to a setting that combines nature with the historical heritage of the banks of the Blies. Here, old millstones or brick chimneys stand alongside Steppe lilies and other hydrangeas in bloom in summer, and in autumn, let yourself be surprised by the gingerbread smell of the cake trees. The colours, plants and other small creatures in the garden change with the seasons and evoke the inspiration of the earthenware decorators of past centuries. On the same site, another must-see: the Museum of Faience Techniques. It is as if nothing has changed since the workers left. On the tables, piles of plates seem ready to be fired or decorated, in the middle of the room there are still trolleys of raw material and between two machines a dryer loaded with pieces. Interactive demonstrations are occasionally given to the public in this almost completely reconstructed production workshop. From the preparation of the clay, to the different firings, through to decoration, you will learn all you need to know about earthenware manufacturing techniques and tableware! Free on the first Sunday of each month and during the Christmas Market.
