Castle circuit

South-east of Metz lies Château de Pange, rebuilt in the 18th century on the site of a medieval fortress. On the edge of the village, its austere ensemble is reflected in the waters of the Nied Française. Designed by architect Jean-Baptiste Louis, the château was built in 1720 by Jean-Baptiste Thomas, Seigneur de Pange. The land was made a marquisate in 1766 by Stanislas, Duke of Lorraine, and is still occupied by the Thomas de Pange family. Historic monument. Recreated at the dawn of the year 2000 to designs by landscape architect Louis Benech, the garden at Pange enhances the estate's rustic spirit and the harmony of the landscape. While the regular structure is in keeping with the classic lines of the residence, the planting is contemporary in spirit, combining wild meadows and rooms of roses and perennials. The driveway, which follows the winding course of the river Nied, leads the visitor into the romantic park with its three-hundred-year-old oak trees. The Pange garden has been awarded the "Jardin Remarquable" label.
