Marne and Canal in Varreddes

Description

Hiking tour to discover the towns of Varreddes and Germigny-l'Évêque, former residences of the bishops of Meaux.

1) From the station square, turn right onto the path that runs alongside the railway line. Turn left downhill, cross the D17 and go down Rue du Bac on the right. Walk along the Marne on your left and turn left before the bridge, then right. Turn right onto the D603 and cross the Marne bridge.

2) Take the path on the right and follow the right bank of the river. Pass the Poincy sailing club, then the Hostellerie du Moulin via the small road. The path (muddy in wet weather) passes through the undergrowth, then opens out into fields.

3) The path turns left then right and rejoins the banks of the Marne at Ile aux Bœufs. Take the path on the left that runs alongside a ditch, then the path on the right. At the entrance to Varreddes, turn right onto the D97. Cross the Marne.

4) After the bridge, go down to the left and follow the riverbank on the right, passing under the remains of the old bridge to reach the square in Germigny-l'Évêque. Leave the river and, in front of the war memorial, take Rue de l'Eglise on the right.

5) Turn right, then take the ruelle aux loups on the left. Continue along the dirt track alongside the wall. At the end, turn slightly left, enter the Bois de la Mairesse and, after 150 m, take the straight path on the right. Cross the D17, continue for 100 m, then turn into the wide path on the left.

6) Continue straight ahead (access to the GR®11), squeeze through the path on the right, then take the Belle-Laie road on the left. Before the railway line, take the path on the right. It comes out of the forest and passes behind the station. Follow the D17 on the left to cross the railway line, then turn left to reach
Trilport station.
