Fils d'une famille noble, Edmond d'Hoffschmidt (1777-1861) semblait destiné à une vie de nanti, baignant dans le luxe. Engagé dans l'armée de Napoléon, il tombe follement amoureux au cours d'une des campagnes napoléoniennes. Mais son père s’oppose au mariage. Il décide alors de vivre en ermite. Il a vécu reclus dans les bois pendant quinze ans. Il avait une serre, une volière et il faisait son propre pain. Une petite tour rocheuse servait de point d'observation.

Le moulin à eau de Resteigne, au bord de la Lesse, date de 1688 et est un monument classé. Il faisait autrefois partie du château. Après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, le moulin a été racheté par André Devis. Ses descendants - aujourd'hui la 4e génération - ont restauré la roue. Depuis lors, elle produit de l'électricité, à raison d'environ 18 000 kW/an. Vous séjournez ici donc dans un B&B écologique doté d’un beau jardin.
