"Le Lac de Vallon" Hike

Partez sur l'itinéraire de la Croix des Chartreux qui conduit à la Cascade de Diomaz et profitez du panorama que vous offre le Roc d'Enfer.C'est en 1651 que la Chapelle actuelle a été construite sur les ruines de l'ancienne église de la Chartreuse de Ripaille-Vallon. Les parties les plus anciennes d'architecture romane (le choeur en cul-de-four avec sa voûte en berceau et son arc double en bloc de tuf ainsi que les arcs en pierres taillées de la sacristie) sont mises en valeur lors de sa restauration. Depuis 1971, l'association "Les amis de la Chartreuse de Vallon-Ripaille" continue l'oeuvre de réhabilitation de la Chapelle et de son site.

Created by a landslide in 1943, lake Vallon keeps secrets steeped in history. The lake, standing in the shadow of Roc d'Enfer between mountains and forests, delights walkers and anglers ( a haven for trout).

In the heart of La Chèvrerie resort at the foot of the mountain awaits the Tête au Moine team for a warming drink, delicious meal or boogie in the pub(weekends).

In this delightful spot only 30 minutes from lake Vallon, the water flows over the waterfall into natural basins in the rock. At the foot of the cascade is the Carthesians' Cross, carved into the rock to mark the boundary of their land.

La Croix des Chartreux is engraved on stone at the foot of the Diomaz waterfall.The old roads to Vallon in Thonon snaking through the valley along the Brevon were called the Chemin des Chartreux. You can still see sections of stone paths (after the covered bridge, on the way to Tallaz Roassaz, between Les Mouilles and Talonay, between the Col de Jambas and L'Epuyer etc.) Another sign of the Chartreux monks' presence: the crosses that they engraved in stone to mark out their territory. The most famous marks the border with this town and was engraved after a long quarrel with Mégevette about Diomaz Forest in the 17th century. You will find it at the foot of the Diomaz waterfall. Other signs lies beneath the rubble and moss that has grown over the centuries.
