La Pierre à Bérard

Half an hour from the hamlet of Le Buet, follow a pretty path to the Berard waterfall. The path begins to the left of Hotel du Buet and takes your through the typical hamlet of La Poya, which once provided shelter for the village’s goatherds.You will come across a walkway built on the right bank of the torrent. From here, you can enjoy a close-up view of the turbulent mountain stream that descends the slopes of the Aiguilles Rouges. Other interesting fact about this site: the infamous counterfeiter Joseph Samuel Farine took refuge in the nearby cave.

Refuge ancien situé à 1 925m, construit sous un énorme bloc pour être protégé des avalanches, le refuge est petit, caché au fond de la vallée de Bérard. Refuge en limite de la réserve naturelle des Aiguilles rouges.Nous vous accueillons au refuge pour un instant ou pour une nuit, sur notre terrasse ou sous la pierre, la météo en décidera. Qu'importe, toute l'équipe du refuge sera ravie de vous accueillir et de faire en sorte que vous vous sentiez aux petits soins. Vous êtes également les bienvenus à nos tables pour un repas du midi à la carte. Nous vous proposons une cuisine faite maison, un max locale et/ou bio : pizzas napolitaines, salades, soupes, planches de charcuterie ou fromages. Pour le goûter ou le dessert venez déguster nos tartes et gâteaux préférés.

Created in 1992, the Vallon de Bérard nature reserve has a surface area of 539 ha and culminates between 1,700 m and 2,965 m .Located in the town of Vallorcine, the Vallon de Berard nature reserve completes the Aiguilles Rouges nature reserve. All the plant and animal formations of the montane, sub-alpine, alpine and snowy levels are represented. The alpine level is the domain of the snowy combes and the small suspended glaciers, relics of the ice age. The Vallon de Bérard is home to typical mountain fauna (ibex, chamois, ptarmigan, etc.) but it is also an important migration corridor where birds and insects link the Swiss Valais to the Rhone Valley.
