A family friendly hike which brings you to Orgeval's alpine pastures at the foot of Arcalod Mountain, Bauges' highest summit. Extend your trip by taking a break or spending a night at the mountain refuge.
Start at Ecole, take the "Route du Vallon de Bellevaux" road and follow it to the authorized boundary of the Nant Fourchu car park (6 km). Follow the road for 300 m and veer left via a quite steep alpine pasture track (signs).
Climb up to the refuge (overnight accommodation and snacks available in season). Continue straight on as far as the mountain pass of Orgeval (Col d'Orgeval). You are now in the heart of the Wildlife and Hunting National Reserve where mouflons and chamois can be easily spotted. When descending you can, by leaving the alpine pasture, take the forestry track of Coutarse on the left and walk to the Nant Fourchu car park.
