CYCL - MONTÉE D'ARTIGUE DEPUIS JUZET-DE-LUCHON

The climb to Artigue, a small village perched high in the mountains, is short but challenging.
It’s a good way to prepare yourself before tackling the other mountain passes in the Central Pyrenees.
Starting from Juzet-de-Luchon, the D46 climbs steadily and very steeply from the moment you pass the sign marking the village boundary. A series of superb hairpin bends offers stunning views of the Luchon valley and the surrounding peaks.
The road ends as a dead end in the small village of Artigue.

Detailed stages
1 - The climb begins at the junction with the D46, just on the outskirts of Juzet-de-Luchon. The tone is set straight away: the road rises steeply through the trees.
2 - Up to the village of Sode, you’ll encounter a series of hairpin bends. This is the most challenging section, with the gradient remaining consistently above 9.5 per cent.
3 - After Sode, the gradient eases very slightly but remains at around 8 to 9 per cent.
4 - As you leave the forest, the final kilometre features a slightly gentler gradient (around 8 per cent) all the way to Artigue.
Before heading back down, take a moment to enjoy the exceptional view over the Luchon valley and the surrounding peaks.
