Family hike. The Varan chalets are part of an alpine pasture at the base of the Aiguilles de Varan. Overlooking the Arve Valley, the sunny terrace of the refuge has a unique view of the Mont-Blanc.
Technical Description: The trail begins at the entrance to Plateau d'Assy in front of the medical centre, "Mont Blanc". A steep 4x4 track runs through the forest and steep cliffs to the north of the village. After an hour, you arrive at the first mountain chalet and the panorama opens. From here, leave the 4x4 track and take a trail, near to the trough, to join the path " Tour du Pays du Mont Blanc". Turn left towards the Varen mountain refuge hut. On arrival the views are breathtaking.
To return, you can take the same itinerary or an alternative that creates a loop. Take the 4x4 track towards the paragliding take off zone and follow it towards to the Coudray car-park. From here take the path on your left back to the departure point.
