Boucle de Cuq-Château

Boucle de Cuq-Château

Description

From the village to the castle

The fields and meadows of the Cuq-Toulza countryside are part of Lauragais and the Pays de Cocagne. Linked to both the cultivation of pastel and the abundance of productions of this wheat granary. You will cross them to rea

In the Middle Ages, the establishment of the feudal system favored high-altitude sites for their strategic interest. "Puech de Montcuq" did not escape the attention of the local lords, and in August 1183, Sicard de Puylaurens and Pierre de Tripoli signed the charter of foundation of the first citadel that existed at Cuq-Château. Destroyed following various clashes, the fortress was replaced by a small castle that was built on the same site. It consists of a quadrangular dwelling with two corners flanked by square towers. Despite its numerous alterations, the building retains a certain number of elements dating from the reconstruction carried out in the 17th century.
