The liberation by the Americans in 1944 saw a tragic episode along the banks of the Moselle in Corny-sur-Moselle, when the Germans counterattacked. The memorial and the Dornot-Corny 1944 historical trail recount in detail the course of these battles, during which nearly 1,000 men were killed, wounded, or reported missing in 60 hours of intense fighting.
