This family hike, with its many panoramic views, takes you to the puys de la Vache and Lassolas, twin volcanoes of remarkable proportions. The surrounding landscape is made up of cooled lava bombs scattered over a soil composed in part of pozzolan.

From 01/01 to 31/12.
Subject to favorable weather.
1/ Opposite the start sign, take the first path, shared by the
paths (GR 4 and GR 441). Pass a staircase leading to the quarry. Continue to a fork in the road (signposts, altitude 990 m).
2/ Go right, then straight across a partially wooded moor and continue until you reach a fork. Keep left and continue to the first
intersection. Leave the GR and go right up a steep pozzolana track. After a flat area, continue up to the summit of Puy de Lassolas. Follow the ridge (panoramic views of the Monts du Cantal, Sancy, Forez and Chaîne des Puys, as well as Lac d'Aydat) to the first path on the left.
3/ Take it. The descent continues on an undergrowth path to the pass between Puy de Lassolas and Puy de la Vache.
4/ Climb up to the lip of the volcano (view of the puys de la Mey and de Dôme, the château and the étang de Montlosier). Continue left over red slag to the summit of Puy de la Vache (1,167 m) (panoramic view of the puys, Sancy, Cézallier and Livradois). Reach the start of the downhill stairs.
5/ Take these stairs, then the path becomes gentler. Continue until you reach a fork in the road (signposts). Turn right and head towards the volcanic chaos (discovery area "Une carrière en rouge et noir", educational panel). Take the left-hand path back to the start.
