Open from April to October, this family-friendly trail invites visitors to discover one of Normandy’s most remarkable natural sites. A former meander of the Seine River, the Marais Vernier covers 4,500 hectares and is home to one of the largest peat bogs in France, recognised as a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention.
The trail crosses communal land, follows a small canal and runs along the Dutch Dike (Digue des Hollandais), offering an unusual view of the Tancarville Bridge. To the south, wooded hills form the horizon, while to the north the Seine River is never far away.
The marsh is a paradise for birdwatchers, located on a major migratory corridor of the Seine estuary. During periods of flooding, birdlife observations can be particularly spectacular. Waterproof boots may prove useful!
The village of Marais Vernier itself is full of charm, with its thatched cottages and traditional half-timbered buildings reflecting an architectural heritage closely linked to this unique wetland landscape.
An easy trail for the whole family, perfect for discovering the richness and beauty of nature just a stone’s throw from the estuary.
