Roquetaillade par la piste cyclable

Le château de Roquetaillade a été reconnu comme "Site exceptionnel de la Gironde". Classé Monument Historique en 1840, Roquetaillade est constitué de deux châteaux forts du XIIe XIVe siècle, toujours habités et entièrement meublé par la même famille depuis plus de 700 ans. Roquetaillade est vu comme un véritable "chef d’œuvre" de Viollet-le-Duc chargé de sa restauration en 1860. Tél : 05 56 76 14 16

La fondation de l'église du Nizan, en partie romane, est attribuée aux Templiers. Elle a été restaurée en partie au XVIe siècle puis en 1954. L'abside du XIe ou XIIe siècle comprend deux rangs d'arcatures superposées. Les chapiteaux sont de style barbare : pommes de pin, moutons, lions affrontés. La façade ouest est couronnée d'un pignon qui surmonte une porte du XIVe siècle aux chapiteaux tournés. Le clocher fut bâti en même temps que les bas-côtés, sur le flan sud du choeur (XIVe).

In the outskirts of Bazas, about sixty kilometres south of Bordeaux, Roquetaillade château is proud of a rich history as shown by its variety of architectural styles. Roquetaillade has the particularity of being formed by two fortified castles from the 12th and 14th centuries. Firstly, look at the ramparts, towers and keeps and the elegant Renaissance chimneys, said to be the first in the region. Then, more surprisingly, behind the medieval facade, the design of the great architect from the 19th century, Viollet-le-Duc. Note the grand staircase in the keep, based on a design rejected by the Paris Opera. In a Neo-gothic style, the rooms and little chapel of the park are decorated in bright colours and patterns, like this pink bedroom with a canopy bed and its box section ceiling. Before leaving, stop in front of the dovecote which is still in use, where the birds will delight children.
