Cadillac, une cité de caractère

This town is an example of a bastide or fortified town. Its central square surrounded by arcades, the well-defined city plan and fortified walls and gateways. Cadillac's history does not end here, however, the town was the fief of one of the most powerful figures of the 17th century, le Duc d'Epernon. A favorite of King Henry III, Epernon was the admiral of France and chief governor of Guyenne under Henry IV and Louis XIII. He built himself a chateau that rivaled some of the royal dwellings of the time.

Built at the beginning of the 17th century by a favourite of Henri III, the château of the Dukes of Epernon was in its day fit for a royal palace. Very typical of French architecture, it was converted in the 19th century into a women's prison. Classified historical monument. The Closière, chartreuse of the XVIIIème century, former wine house which park presents hundred-years-old trees. Nowadays, this is the House of Wines of Premières Côtes de Bordeaux and Cadillac appellations. 400 properties and 3400 hectares of vineyards … It delivers all the information about of Premières Côtes de Bordeaux (white and red) and (syrupy) Cadillac. This nice house livens up, all year long, with exhibitions and animations as the culinary competition " the Perfect Harmony", rewarding the most beautiful wedding between dishes and wines.
