Description
A hike from the village of Heume-l'église on the edge of the Combrailles and the area where the Sancy river is born. The hiking trail offers exceptional panoramic views of the surrounding massifs.

Depending on weather conditions, certain itineraries are not recommended in bad weather (fog) or are not practicable, or even forbidden, during the winter season.
Some sites are fragile, so stay on the marked trails. Avoid picking wild flowers and disturbing wildlife. Pick up your garbage.
Animals are not allowed on some routes.
Guidebook with maps/step-by-step
1/ From the church (PP1: 12th-century church and Madonna in Majesty), turn left down the hill and immediately right into the street between the stone cross and the wash-house. Go around a house and turn left on a downhill path to a road. Go right for 300 m, then left towards Heume-le-Franc. As you climb the hill, turn left onto a track. Leave two tracks on the left and take the first on the right. Continue until you reach the road.
2/ Follow it to the right and turn left after the first farm. Go straight across the crossroads at the end of the village to a T-junction and turn right. At the next T-junction, at the entrance to the hamlet of Les Chabannes, turn left. Turn right at the fork. Continue along the main path (PV1: view of Banne d'Ordanche and Massif des Dores), leaving the left-hand path behind. Descend to the road.
3/ At the large triangular crossroads, turn left, cross the main road, go down the small road facing the puy de Dôme for 50 m and turn right onto a track (PV2: panorama: puy de Dôme, Sancy, Banne d'Ordanche). At Heume-l'Eglise (PP2: oven on the right), turn left after the first house, then right at the church to reach the starting point.
