Les Penitents Trail N°2

The Pénitents trail allows families to discover this legendary site, listed as a UNESCO Geopark in Haute-Provence, based on the legend that "monks were punished for having set their eyes on young women. They were petrified...".

Les Penitents trail is the prefered route to discover this particular rock called "le Poudingue". This mineral was created, a few millions years ago, by the consolidation of rock debris, which were ripped from the alpin channel when it was raising from the ground and rolled by the "ancestor" of la Durance.

From the village center, go towards the campsite, then take the stairs onto the chapel, on the left towards the rocks. The climb winds in the pines, with an arid flora around, specificity of Provence.
