A magnificent route through the protected site of the Gorges du Gardon, in the heart of the nature reserve.
From the town hall parking lot, take the Chemin de La Baume (to the left of the bakery) for about 1 km to the "La Coufine" sign.
Then turn left towards "Les Condamines": the path crosses the garrigue. Then follow the signs for "La Baume" and gradually descend until you reach the river.
On your right is the old La Baume mill and a small chapel nestling at the foot of the cliff. Turn right to reach the chapel.
A path cut into the wall leads to the cave. The cave is open from March 15 to April 30 and from August 16 to November 14.
After crossing the cave, follow the signs for "La Coufine". If the cave is closed, follow the signs for "La Coufine" without taking the stone staircase to the cave.
Continue straight ahead: the path crosses the garrigue and includes a climb of considerable difficulty for around 1 km.
Caution: the water of the Gardon, mainly fed in summer by resurgences, is very cold. The risk of hydrocution is high, which is why swimming is strictly forbidden all year round at La Baume (Sanilhac-Sagriès).
