Beaucaire Island, a natural haven in the heart of Moissac
Located on the left bank of the Tarn River, opposite the town of Moissac, Beaucaire Island covers approximately 2 hectares. This wetland is an integral part of the Tarn ecosystem and provides an ideal refuge for aquatic fauna, birds and fish species.
Classified as a ‘Sensitive Natural Area’ and included in the European Natura 2000 network under the ‘Birds’ Directive, the island benefits from a permanent fishing reserve, thus preserving its remarkable biodiversity. Its calm waters, duckweed and vegetation provide food and nesting sites for many species.
An interpretive trail allows visitors to walk around the island and discover its rich flora and fauna. Accessible from the Moulin du Bidounet campsite, this walk offers a pleasant immersion on the banks of the Tarn, ideal for young and old alike.
