Vieux Lavoir

Nestled at the foot of the Château Guillaume-le-Conquérant, in the historic Val d'Ante district, the Vieux Lavoir is a charming testimony to the everyday heritage of yesteryear.

Built in the second half of the 19th century, this covered washhouse served as a meeting point for washerwomen and was fed by water from the river Ante. It stands on a site formerly occupied by tanneries, once numerous in Falaise. These workshops, which made abundant use of the river's water, have given way to a more modest site, but one just as full of memories.

The desire to preserve this living heritage has given rise to an ambitious restoration program. Work has focused on the framework, slate roofing, lime pointing and the creation of a new entrance.

Now reopened to the public, the Vieux Lavoir de Falaise is a must-see when exploring the medieval town of Falaise.
